Master of Science in Information System (MSIS)
The MSIS Program at Eastern Michigan University is aimed at preparing students in concepts, theory, and practices for designing, constructing, and maintaining information systems that support business processes. The knowledge and practical business applications development experiences that the students gain during their EMU MSIS studies prepares them for professions and academic advancement. Learning experiences in the MSIS program expose the students to challenges in developing leading edge information systems with a sound understanding of how information technology should integrate with strategic approaches to business management. The MSIS program requires 30 hours in core courses and 18 hours of foundation courses that may be waived with appropriate courses taken earlier at the undergraduate level. MSIS faculty members are dedicated to teaching and are engaged in research publishing their work in international, national and regional refereed academic and professional journals; and serve as consultants to professional, business, manufacturing and service organizations. The Computer Information Systems Department is located in Gary M. Owen College of Business Building, a state-of-the-art facility built in 1990. The CIS Department operates two specialized software development computer laboratories and several computer classrooms for hands-on training. The MSIS Program at EMU is within the College of Business (COB) with accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Eastern Michigan University is fully accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. Admission is granted to graduates of accredited colleges and universities whose GPA and GRE or GMAT scores indicate an aptitude for advanced study in computer information systems. Minimum requirements are a GRE (verbal and quantitative) score of 900, or a GMAT score of 450, and an undergraduate GPA of either 2.75 overall or 3.0 for the last half of undergraduate study. Students may qualify for conditional admission with an index of 950 or higher where the index is computed as GPA * 200 + GMAT score or GPA * 400 + GRE score (verbal and quantitative) >=1900.
